Free Online Medical Terminology Class Can Start Your Degree
The medical field is a field that is exploding, in large part to the new health care legislation that was passed earlier this year. There are an incredible number of jobs for people in this fascinating field that do not involve being a doctor or a nurse. Many people want to become involved in the administrative side of the medical field, or to work as physician’s assistants.
If a student want to be involved in the medical field but doesn’t want to become a doctor or a nurse, they can seek an associate degree in medical and health. Most colleges that offer this degree will require a medical terminology class. This class is critical, because people who work in the medical field must be able to understand the language of medicine, even if they are not a doctor or a nurse. There is a wealth of information about free online colleges on the web.
For students who want to be involved directly in patient care as physician assistants, understanding medical terminology is paramount to be able to assist the doctor. They may be asked to assist with charts while the doctor is making his patient assessment. For the chart to be accurate, the assistant needs to be able to fully understand the terminology the doctor is talking about; this may help eliminate errors.
In medical administration, there are lots of jobs that need the knowledge of medical terminology. Many doctors employ medical transcriptionists to transcribe dictated notes, letters to other physicians, charts, or referrals to other specialists. Office managers and medical secretaries also need to know what medical terms are in order to be competent in their jobs, whether they work in a hospital, a clinic, or a doctor’s office. Educating yourself all you can about medical terminology on line may mean quicker success.
Most medical terminology classes teach the terms from an anatomical approach. Often, the words are divided by body system, and then further divided by root word, origin, and use. Students will be required to learn not only the root words, but prefixes and suffixes, too. This in-depth knowledge can help students determine how the various words are combined to describe certain medical conditions.
One of the most common ways that students learn in these classes is by using word association tools. Another way to help them memorize the words is by understanding any references to the words or terms that are not medical. One of the most important elements to this class is proper spelling.
One of the excellent by-products of this class is the knowledge of anatomy that will be gained. That’s because the medical terms are covered as they relate to each particular body system. Students will become familiar with the respiratory system, the skeletal system, and the circulatory system, to name a few. In addition to anatomical references, students will also learn how each word and its roots or suffixes relate to certain conditions, procedures, or diagnoses. Looking into more information about free online college courses will work in your favor.
When the medical terminology class is completed, students will have the ability to understand and analyze the roots of medical words, spell and pronounce them correctly, and understand their use as it relates to medical practice. Whether a student wants to be a medical administrator or a medical assistant, a class in medical terminology is an important foundation in medical knowledge. When this class is completed, you will be well equipped to deal with the intricate language of medicine.
What organs are slightly to the right of the sternum, slightly up under rib line?
What would cause pain in the upper right quadrant, slightly to the right of the sternum and along the rib line?
Also accompanied with this is severe itching, pallor, nausea, and severe fatigue. Doctor did tests several months ago...nothing found. Said it was "stress"
Im tryiing to find a decent anatomical chart that might help, before something really goes bad.
Gallbladder? Liver? Kidney? Where is the right kidney located in relation to the sternum? How about that tube that connects downward?
Any ideas, thoughts, pictures would greatly be appreciated.
Thanx
Liver, gallbladder, lung (hepatitis, cholecystitis, cancer)?
