Iipm Student Got Industry Visit To Bausch & Lomb
60 IIPM students of spring summer got an excellent opportunity to visit Bausch & Lomb and it was a very fruitful and enriching experience. It took us about two-and-half hours to reach the unit at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The visit started by the refreshments that was given by the Bausch & Lomb followed by the plant visit and ended by the q & a round with the management. The plant visit started by the presentation of Mr. Sunil chaturvedi- quality assurance manager. His presentation included the history of Bausch & Lomb and the success till date. The Bausch and Lomb factory is built up in a perfect and developing industrial area located at Bhiwadi, 64 kms from Delhi. It was very well maintained, right from the small park, hygienic cafeteria to the neat passages leading to the well marked various departments. Bausch & Lomb mainly produces two kinds of products which includes Contact lenses& lens caring Solutions-"Renu multiples" lens clearing solutions in 60,120,360,520ml packages. Then the Quality control and Testing officer talked about the types of testing in Bausch & Lomb. HPLC-High Performance Liquid Chromatography for Physical stability of the lenses. Microbiological testing is mostly to check for infections. Chemical testing is mainly for the solutions. Demand & Supply gap is managed by Mr. Sanjeev lakhani – sr. officer manufacturing that how the projected demand is passed by the marketing & sales people at IDC Gurgaon and then they pass on the figures after consulting with the corporate office which maintains the record. As far as Industrial relation is considered The HR practices are very good indeed, the total staff in the plant including the part timers will not exceed by 100.There is no trade union no strikes. Staffs are well taken of. The shift is of 9 hrs generally & 1 or maximum of 2 shifts are carried out generally in a day. A future prospect of Bausch & Lomb is To be the market leader in eye care, surgical instruments. In India it has 80% of market share with revenue of around 200 crores. It has started projects in towns like Panthnagar where there is little knowledge for eye care by setting of hospitals. The company is working on new R&D strategies to capture more market share and retain its status.
