What Causes Stretch Marks?
The majority of people think that stretch marks are caused by pregnancy. Pregnancy can certainly lead to stretch marks. But there are a host of different reasons for stretch marks to develop. You should know that stretch marks can appear from a number of factors ranging from but not limited to pregnancy, medicine use, weight gain, and even diseases and illnesses.
Pregnancy is the most common cause of stretch marks. Skin stretches, we all know this. You can see this especially in pregnancy when a woman's belly will expand to make room for the baby inside of her. As elastic as our skin is, it can only stretch so far before stretch marks appear. Stretch marks will generally appear during the third trimester. Once overstretched, the skin actually tears beneath the external layer and scar tissue is formed, resulting in stretch marks. Obviously, if you push your stomach out as far as it can go, markings will not appear because the skin acts as a form of elasticity. Typically, pregnancy stretch marks usually occur in the abdominal area. Having said that, it's more than possible to find stretch marks on the hips, thighs, and calves of pregnant women.
Another culprit of stretch marks is weight gain. Stretch marks from weight gain can appear anywhere in the body, often times making them worse than pregnancy stretch marks. Among men, bodybuilders and weightlifters are most susceptible to stretch marks, largely because of the muscle gain on their arms and legs. Too quickly of an increase in any one body part will typically mean that the skin surrounding that part will show markings simply because the stretching rate is too fast. But if you chose to develop your muscles in a slowed down fashion, you will see that stretch marks are less likely to appear.
Medication use or diseases are other {causes of stretch marks that many people don't realize are possible~In addition to weight gain and pregnancy, both medicines and diseases are also ways to get stretch marks~Stretch marks can also appear in the event of medicine usage and illnesses~Many people don't know this, but medication and diseases are also common causes of stretch marks}. A condition known as Cushing's syndrome can cause widespread markings all over the skin. Two other diseases that act in the same way as Cushing's Sydrome are Marfan syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. While a small percentages of the stretch marks from diseases are caused by genetics, a greater amount comes about as a result of adrenal gland disorders. Many teens and adolescents develop markings as they are growing or going through large growth spurts.
After giving birth, the first thing many women do is look for ways to get rid of their stretch marks. You can find lots of different treatment for stretch marks, be it natural treatments, over-the-counter treatments, or even prescription drugs. On average, the markings from rapid growth will disappear rather quickly. Unfortunately, the majority of stretch marks will last for years. It is best to take good care of your skin if you want the stretch marks to go away sooner. Stretch marks on the skin are a natural part of life, but they can certainly make someone uncomfortable with a low self-esteem.
I was diagnosed Cushing's disease last year due to a pituitary adenoma, due in for surgery in April... ?
I'm scared, the surgery is going to be performed in Mexico using the transphenoidal method, my adenoma is 6 x 5 mm, located on the left side of the gland, the carotide vein, is near the adenoma, what should I expect?
I heard there is an alternative to surgery, by using gamma knife, is it appropiate to be used in my case?
The surgery is done thru an endoscope which goes up thru the nostrils to a natural passageway. The surgeon can move the instrument down to the pituitary adenoma near the carotid vein & remove the tumor.
You may need to take medication after the surgery.
If you Google "transphenoidal" click on 1st site "Surgery"
They have a video you can watch of the removal of a pituitary adenoma.
You can also google mayo clinic>>diseases>>Cushing's disease
Good luck
