Today I brought some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste (+the ArctiClean) cleaned all the old stuff off my laptop and applied this, put the laptop back together and turned it on.
Within 15 seconds the underneeth of the laptop was boiling hot with the fan blowing full-speed and the screen came up Red/Yellow/Blue squares and shutdown.
So i took it apart again to take alook, Cleaned and re-applied (slightly thicker layer this time, about 1 - 1.5mm over the die) took the CMOS battery out for 5 mins then put it all back together, turned it on and the same happened again.
I've applied Thermal paste to 100's of PC's/Laptops in the past and never had issues, Is there a chance the brand new Thermal paste was ruined and not performing correctly?
Also does this sound like the Graphical chip has been damaged or should I clean and re-apply my other branded Thermal paste to see if it works?
