What is the reason for very less number of women in surgical specialties than men?
most of the women prefer gynecology, we can hardly find female surgeons in areas like surgical oncology that deals with more number of female patients and the female patients prefer female surgeons,they often enquire whether the hospital has a female surgeon or not....
not to mention about urology,cardiology,orthopedics ,etc. very few women are choosing careers in surgical specializations...what could be the reasons ?

That is not the case in the US. There are more women going into surgical specialties here. Surgical training takes long hours and is difficult. Some women may feel that it is not conducive to having a family.
I work with many surgical residents and there is almost an even amount of males to females (maybe with urology and ortho as exceptions).
